20.Mai im Jahr 2006. Ich stehe an meinem kleinen Plattenstand auf der besten Musikmesse der Welt, die Rede ist von der Pop Up Messe in Leipzig (Danke Jörk Auge Augsburg dafür). Ich stehe jedenfalls an meinem Plattenstand, als ein großer, hagerer Mann mit Hut auf mich zutritt und fragt, ob ich nicht tauschen möchte. Die jüngeren unter Euch können es nicht wissen, aber früher haben Labels noch Platten getauscht. Jedenfalls der Typ ist sympathisch und ich sage erstmal ja. Er fragt wieviel und ich sage, was machst du denn und seine Antwort „Volksmusik“. Ich muss schlucken, aber Wort ist Wort also wird getauscht. Zurück in Kassel, Kisten werden in meinem Plattenladen Aerobic Freaks International ausgepackt, die getauschten Platten, aufgelegt und ich bin baff. Ja, das ist Volksmusik, aber eigentlich ist es bayrische Worldmusik mit einer großen Verneigung an Musik aus allen den verschiedenen Ecken dieser Welt. Cajun, Calypso also ihr wisst schon handgemachter Musik armer Menschen. Die Platte läuft, ich bin begeistert. Nach und nach kommen die ersten Kunden, zumeist Punkrockliebhaber, und keine 2 Stunden später sind alle getauschten Platten weg. Ich hätte es nicht erwartet und in gewisser Weise ist Andreas meine Initialzündung, mich mit „Worldmusik“ zu beschäftigen

Gut Feeling
20th May of 2006, I am at my booth at the worlds best music fair, the Pop Up Messe in Leipzig (Thanks to Jörg Auge Augsburg for having me). So, I am standing at my booth when a tall, skinny man with a hat approaches me and asks, if I am interested in trading some vinyl. Fun fact for the younger generation: back in the days, it was normal for labels to trade and exchange their releases. Anyways, the guy is likable so I agree. As he’s asking how many records I would like to trade I ask him, which kind of music he is into and his answer „Volksmusik“ (folk music - some kind no go word when you’re meaning traditional german music) made me swallow, but - a yes is a yes, so we exchanged some of our releases. After the fair, back in Kassel in my record store Aerobic Freaks International, I unpacked all boxes and put on the first bunch of traded records and it instantly hit me. Yes, it is Bavarian folk music but mixes up with influences and music from everywhere in the world, like Cajun or Calypso for example - music that is handmade and mainly played by the poorer people and communities. As the record spins I am more and more satisfied. The first customers come to the store - mainly the ones into Punkrock - and two hours later all traded records are sold. I haven’t thought that this could happen and, somehow, Andreas and his records have been the spark that brought me to „Worldmusic“.
